Tisa Hatfield

Tisa Hatfield is a St Reliability Engineer at Twitter.  Twitter is a platform where information can be shared.  Reports often use Twitter to get their news article out and use it as a form to gather additional information for their article.  Twitter tries their best does not get misinformation on their platform.  Tisa is responsible to resolve and store service when there is an outage.  She needs to analyze what happened, ways to prevent it from happening, and where did the outage occur.  She deals with a combination of other tech employees and the public people.

Tisa has always worked in the technical field.  She has been exposed to all the different technology areas.  She was at her last job for almost 40 years.  Although, she experienced and learned the most working there, she felt it was time for her to grow and venture off.  And as she did, she found her way to Twitter.  Tisa is grateful for the experience and felt like she came into her own while working at her previous company.  She learned how to facilitate people and get a good read on people faces.  She learned not to operate out of feel.

She tried many different jobs while settling in the technology field.  One of those positions was being an admin.  Tisa learned quickly that although being an administrator is hard work it wasn’t the field for her to pursue in.  She didn’t like working with immature people, and often felt like she was being micromanaged.

Tisa’s own self confidence has been her obstacle to overcome.  She would often be worried that someone would find out she didn’t know what she was doing or doing it wrong.  She quickly learned though that with trial and error and making a mistake isn’t always bad.  It will often build up your confidence.  She slowly was able to build that up and grow within her field.  Several of her direct managers have been her mentors.  One of her managers told her that it was a crime she wasn’t further ahead and making more.  Tisa said her previous manager saw a lot of potential in her and encouraged her to use her potential by giving her more responsibly and which lead her to a promotion as a manager.  Another one of her previous managers would coach her through difficult tasks.  Tisa described their relationship as a good give and take relationship.

When finding a mentor Tisa suggests looking for someone who has been successful.  A bit of useful advice she offered was to do internships if you can.  Get as much knowledge and background and start building professional relationships.  Also, a very important tip was to not go into a support role if you do not like dealing with people.  In support roles you will constantly need to be building and dealing with customers.  What has made Tisa successful in the past and present is her ability to want to help on tasks her co workers do not want to deal with.  She feels that seeing the need to fill in on a variety of tasks, as easy as typing up an email for her boss, has helped her stand out amongst her co workers and shows she is taking additive.  She tries to contently show them how awesome she is and tries to limit her “no” response to projects.  Often she finds herself being the “go to” person on her team.
