Kim Nguyen is a successful software development engineer for Adobe.  Kim believes Adobe’s products give creativity and encourages creators to be more creative.  Her primary responsibilities are to make sure everything goes smoothly for their client .  Kim is also a Podcast host for Passion Sets Success.

Kim started college as a Business Administrator at first.  She shortly changed to Paralegal.  However, most people she was friends with were in school for computer coding.  That is when she got curious to find out what computer coding was and what the degree entailed.  With a Computer Science degree, she was able to use her creative side which is something she enjoyed.  She started her computer science career as a teaching assistant.  She was an assistant for 20 courses over her time.  Kim discovered her passion on being a mentor and helping other students.  It also taught her to be patient, and to be creative when teaching others.  Not everyone learns the same way, and some need a different perspective on learning and understanding.

Kim started the podcast to meet different people in her profession along with other professions.  She is grateful for those who have helped her and wanted to pass the knowledge on to others.  Very much like this blog she wanted to share people’s success and stories with others.  Passion Sets Success is all about passionate people and the passion to create success.  The basic message is that you should love what you are doing.

Kim has had many mentors along the way which she is very grateful for.  She has had so many in fact that she didn’t even know where to begin when telling me about them.  One of her biggest mentors has been her mom.  Her mother has always been her #1 mentor.  She is the woman that Kim inspires to become.  In Kim’s words, her mother is strong, and kind, with a lot of knowledge.  Always pushing her and encouraging her to be the best person she can be.  Kim has had a lot of great teachers who have helped mentor and mold her into her career.  Sam Chung, her previous supervisor is another mentor she couldn’t stop speaking highly enough about.  Sam knew her before she got into the IT world.  He is a great father figure and encouraged her to be creative.  Her new manager, Eric Stevenson, is yet another great mentor of hers.  He believes in her and has taken her under his wing.

The advice Kim would like to pass on is to always think about the “why” when going into the IT field.  Is it because you want to be creative, improve your skills, keep up to date on technology?  Whatever your reason is never stop learning.  It may be frustrating at first but keep trying and never give up.  Ask for help when needed and you will be able to accomplish your goals. You don’t have to pick a path right away when going for your degree in computer science.  There are many different avenues you can take.  Be patient and you will find the right path for you.  Who Kim is today is different from the young women she was at the age of 18.  Kim has learned to be humble, listen to other, learn from others, and having great mentors have all lead to her success and has help mold her into the beautiful successful woman is she today.  Taking the time to analyze problems and issues has also been a key role in her success.  And how can we forget her mentors.  Never forget them as they have helped her along her path and journey.

Balancing her work life and personal life is getting harder and harder.  There was a time when she wasn’t balancing them at all.  Kim quickly learned the importance and impact it has on your mental/physical health when you don’t balance.  She now sets aside 15 min breaks just walk away from the computer so she can refocus her attention on her tasks.  When she needs to destress, she finds this is the best solution.  After work she tries to stay as active as possible.  Kim has joined a couple of sports groups and on the days she doesn’t have a sport activity to participate in she will go outside for a quick walk.
