Dr Brittne Martin

Dr. Brittne Martin is the founder of Doctoral Mom Inc.  Doctoral Mom Inc. is a 501c3 nonprofit organization that provides support to mothers in doctorate programs.  It provides online programs, scholarships, and support groups. The organization represents over 100 colleges and universities along with being in over 100 countries.  She started the organization in 2019 after completing her doctorial degree. Dr. Martin completed her degree while being pregnant with twins.  Doctoral Mom Inc. started as a support group but since then, the organization has become so much more.  The first year Doctoral Mom Inc. had 3,000 members. Since then, the organization grew to have 8,500 members and is expected to reach 10,000 members by the end of 2022.  For the first year Dr. Martin ran the organization by herself. Last year they were able to provide 6 scholarships total, 4 of which Dr. Martin personally funded herself.

Doctoral Mom Inc. uses testimonies and stories from mothers who are members. That is what truly makes them stand out. The authenticity behind it, using real mothers who are members shows real testimony on how the group has helped others. In fact, the group had made such an impact on women that Dr. Martin was nominated for NBC News “Making a Difference” award.  She didn’t even know she was nominated until NBC contacted her and reached out for some photos. It was a humbling experience that she’s very honored and grateful for.

Dr. Martin doesn’t know how exactly she balances her work life and personal life, but somehow it gets done.  She recognizes that she has always had great support from her parents and family but she still had her own obstacles to overcome. Time management has been the biggest obstacle she has been fighting with for years.  There is so much to do and completing and accomplishing all the deadlines can be hard to manage.  Especially adding on top of it all being a mother and taking care of a family and household.  Time runs out fast and while going through school, being pregnant, and taking care of her household, she discovered she needed some support.  She needed some advice from others going through the same stress and issues she was going through.  Which is why she created Doctoral Mom Inc. One of the best parts about her career is that she can have her kids around her while she works.  She described them as her little coworkers who like to play all the time, but you can laugh with them and don’t want them to leave.  Her career has made her closer to her family.

“Never give up on yourself or have negative self-talk.  Always say ‘I can’t fail’ and keep on pushing.” That is some of the best advice Dr. Martin provided. Dr. Martin also believes having core values is important.  Core values such as self-love, honoring family, and showing integrity.  She wants women to know that if you are a mother who is going through school and working, whether it is both in the household or out, try not to let the stereotype of motherhood tie you down.  Mothers can do and be just as successful as Fathers. Over the years she has learned that she has to be very disciplined. Using white boards, notebooks, and a to do list are very helpful ways to stay on top of her responsibilities.  Dr. Martin also knows herself and inner self, so she knows when she needs to take breaks from work and unwind a bit.
